FAQs
Commercial Floors
Can you work around my business hours?
Absolutely. We regularly work evenings, weekends, and in sections to minimise business disruption. We will work with your schedule to ensure minimal downtime.
Is the coating forklift-rated?
Our industrial-grade systems are rated for heavy forklift and pallet-jack traffic. We specify the appropriate system based on your load requirements.
Garage Floors
Will it resist oil and chemical spills?
Yes. Our epoxy base coat is non-porous and highly resistant to oil, gasoline, antifreeze, and most household chemicals. Spills wipe up easily without staining.
Can you coat a garage with existing cracks?
Yes. We fill and repair minor cracks as part of our prep process. Structural cracks larger than 1/4 inch may need a concrete repair specialist before coating.
General
What surfaces do you coat?
Apex Coatings coats concrete — garage floors, driveways, patios, walkways, and pool decks are just a few examples of concrete surfaces we work with. We do not coat pavers, tile, or brick.
Do you do commercial or industrial locations?
Yes. Restaurants, warehouses, schools, fire stations, retail stores, and many other commercial and industrial facilities — if you have a concrete floor, we can coat it.
Are you insured?
Yes — we carry vehicle insurance, general liability insurance, and workers' compensation coverage on all jobs.
Installation
Will there be a lot of dust during installation?
We use HEPA-filter vacuums during the diamond grinding process to capture dust at the source. Door seams are taped to prevent dust from entering the home.
How long after installation can I use my floor?
Walk on floor: 12 hours after completion.
Heavy items/vehicles in garage: 24 hours.
Drive on driveway: 24 hours.
Do I need to be home during installation?
No. We just need access to the coated area. For a garage, the garage door can be left open and the door to the home kept closed. For a driveway or patio, the side gate can be left unlocked.
Does it really only take one day?
Yes — for a standard 2-car garage, we typically arrive in the morning and are finished by sunset. Pool decks and large commercial spaces may take 2–3 days. Weather and concrete conditions can occasionally affect the timeline.
Pool Decks
Will it stay cool in summer heat?
Our pool deck coatings use light-reflective pigments and a textured finish that stays cooler than bare concrete or dark-colored surfaces. Perfect for barefoot comfort in Florida summers.
Is it safe around a pool?
Yes. Our pool deck coatings are slip-resistant, UV-stable, chlorine-resistant, and fully waterproof. They are specifically formulated for wet and outdoor environments.
Preparation
Does my garage need to be completely empty?
The floor does need to be cleared. However, shelves, cabinets, or tools hanging on the walls do not need to be moved — only items on the floor itself.
Does the water heater need to be removed from the garage?
No. We will profile the concrete right up to the edge and coat around it. If the water heater is moved later, the small uncoated area can be addressed for an additional fee.
Does the water softener need to be removed from the garage?
If possible, yes. If not, we will use the same approach as the water heater. There is a greater chance of movement when adding salt, so it's best to have access to coat the full area.

Process & Preparation
How long does the installation take?
Most residential jobs take 1–2 days. We diamond-grind the concrete on day one and apply the coating system on day two. Larger commercial projects may take 2–3 days.
What surface preparation do you do?
We use professional-grade diamond grinding to mechanically open the concrete pores. This creates the strongest possible bond for our coating system — far superior to acid etching.
Do I need to move everything out of the garage first?
Yes, the garage must be empty of vehicles, belongings, and storage. We can help advise on the best way to prepare your space before our arrival.
How long until I can walk or drive on it?
Light foot traffic is fine after 12–16 hours. We recommend waiting 24 hours before light vehicle use and 72 hours for heavy vehicles.
What does the installation process involve?
Our 6-step process:
- Surface Preparation — Diamond tooling under extreme pressure profiles the concrete for maximum adhesion.
- Crack Repair — CR Mender product repairs all cracks; ready to coat in 15 minutes.
- Polyurea Base Coat — Forms a molecular bond with the concrete and becomes a permanent part of your floor.
- Vinyl Chip Broadcast — Decorative chips applied in your chosen color and pattern.
- Chip Scraping — Loose chips collected to create a perfectly level, textured surface.
- Polyaspartic Topcoat — 100% antibacterial, UV-stable topcoat. Drive-on ready in 24 hours.
Products & Materials
What type of coating do you use?
We use a 100% solids epoxy base coat combined with a UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat. This system is significantly stronger and more durable than water-based or single-layer products.
Is the coating slip-resistant?
Yes. Our standard finish includes a decorative vinyl chip broadcast which adds texture and slip resistance. We also offer additional anti-slip additives for pool decks and commercial spaces.
Will the color fade over time?
Our polyaspartic topcoat is UV-stable, meaning it will not yellow or fade from sun exposure — even in the intense Florida sun.
Why are your coatings better than epoxy?
Our proprietary Polyurea base coat forms a molecular bond with the concrete — preventing the delamination and hot-tire pick-up that cause epoxy floors to peel. Our Polyaspartic topcoat is 100% UV stable, antibacterial, and antimicrobial. DIY epoxy kits cost $200–$500 and typically peel within a year. Our coatings are built to last 15+ years.
Warranty & Maintenance
Is there a warranty?
Yes. We offer a 15-year interior warranty and a 5-year exterior warranty. Both warranties cover peeling, delamination, and chipping.
What warranty do you offer?
We offer a 10-year warranty on residential installations and a 5-year warranty on commercial projects. Our warranty covers peeling, delamination, and flaking under normal use conditions.
How do I maintain my coated floor?
Simply sweep and mop with a neutral pH cleaner. Avoid harsh chemicals. Annual light cleaning with a degreaser keeps the floor looking brand new. No waxing or sealing is ever required.
Can the coating be repaired if damaged?
Minor chips or scratches can be spot-repaired. We carry touch-up kits matched to your coating. For larger damage, our team can assess and refinish the affected area.
